Red Bull were fined 50,000 euros ($58,300), with half suspended, for a grid breach before the start of Sunday’s U.S. Formula One Grand Prix.
Stewards reported that a Red Bull team member entered the gate well area near McLaren’s Lando Norris’ grid position after the formation lap had commenced and marshals began closing the gate.
The reason for this action was not disclosed in the statement.
Sources from multiple teams informed Reuters that McLaren had placed a marker to assist Norris in lining up his car correctly on the grid, and the Red Bull employee intended to remove it.
The Briton qualified and finished second in the race, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen starting from pole position and achieving victory.
There was no official comment from either
team, with Red Bull principal Laurent Mekies speaking to reporters prior to the stewards’ decision and providing no details pending the outcome.
