'Deep Respect For Judicial Process': Gautam Adani Welcomes US Court's Decision To Dismiss Charges

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Tuesday welcomed a US court’s decision to dismiss criminal charges against him, saying he had “deep respect for the judicial process.”

In his first public remarks after the case was dismissed, Adani said his faith in “truth, fairness and the rule of law” had remained unwavering throughout the legal proceedings.

“I welcome the US court’s decision with humility and deep respect for the judicial process. Throughout this challenging period, our faith in truth, fairness and the rule of law remained unwavering,” Adani wrote in a post on X.

He thanked those who continued to have faith in him, the legal system and “India’s capacity for justice”.

“We will continue doing what matters: building for our nation, creating value that outlasts us and serving a purpose larger than ourselves. That is our commitment,” he added.

Judge Dismisses Case

A US judge on Monday dismissed the criminal case against Adani after the Trump administration moved to drop fraud and bribery charges brought against him in 2024.

Brooklyn federal judge Nicholas Garaufis formally approved prosecutors’ request to dismiss allegations that Adani was involved in a $265 million scheme to bribe Indian officials to secure lucrative solar energy supply contracts.

Adani’s lawyer Robert Giuffra, who is also US President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, had reportedly told the US Justice Department officials that Adani would be willing to invest $10 billion in the US if the charges were dropped.

Garaufis had questioned whether the investment pledge influenced the decision but ultimately concluded that it did not play a role in the prosecutors’ decision.

The judge, however, criticised the way the Justice Department handled the case, saying it was “highly unusual” for a senior official to decide to drop the charges without input from investigators and prosecutors who had worked on the case.

“The fact that McCotter came to this decision largely in collaboration with defense counsel, and seemingly without input from the FBI and SEC agents who investigated the alleged misconduct, or (prosecutors) who brought the case, appears to be highly unusual,” he wrote.
