New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Delhi Traffic Police issued more than 1,500 challans and removed 39 street-vending encroachments in a day during an anti-encroachment drive conducted across the Northern Range to clear roads and footpaths and ease traffic congestion, an official said on Thursday.
The intensive drive was carried out on Wednesday and a total of 1,522 challans were issued for violations related to encroachment and obstruction, while 39 rehri-patri (street vendors) encroachments were removed from roads and public spaces. One vehicle was also impounded during the drive, the police said.
Special enforcement action was undertaken at several congestion-prone locations, including Harish Chander Hospital Chowk, Bawana Chowk, Jahangirpuri Metro Station
and Samaypur Badli metro station, they said.
Several major stretches were also cleared of unauthorised encroachments, including Harish Chander Hospital Road, Bawana-Narela Road, the Ring Road stretch between Azadpur and Mukarba Chowk, and the road connecting Samaypur Badli metro station with Rohini Sector-18.
The removal of encroachments is expected to increase the available carriageway, reduce obstruction and facilitate smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians, officials said.
Delhi Traffic Police said unauthorised occupation of roads, footpaths and other public spaces contributes to congestion, restricts pedestrian movement and can pose road-safety risks. PTI SSJ SSJ MNK MNK
