The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a Rs 100-crore defamation suit filed by actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui against his brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui and his estranged wife, Anjana Pandey, for non-prosecution.
While a detailed copy of the order is yet to be released, it should be noted that Siddiqui had accused his brother of cheating. In his plea, the actor claimed that he had appointed his younger brother as his manager in 2008. Siddiqui claimed that his brother had access to his credit cards, debit cards, ATM cards, signed cheque book, bank passwords and email address. The actor alleged that Shamasuddin bought properties with his money in his name. Nawaz further alleged that when he questioned Shamsuddin about the purchases, he instigated his ex-wife to file false cases against him.
In his suit, Nawaz also claimed that when he removed his brother as his manager, he started to blackmail the actor with “cheap videos” along with his former wife, Anjana Pandey (Aaliya Siddiqui). Siddiqui claimed that the controversy impacted his career and his films were then postponed.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Divorce Battle With Aaliya
Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Aaliya have been embroiled in a highly publicised divorce battle. The couple, married for over 14 years with two children, Shaura and Yaani, filed for divorce in May 2020. Back then, Aaliya cited emotional distress and alleged that Nawazuddin made her feel like a “nobody”.
Aaliya’s lawyer stated that she had “suffered a lot” and was seeking sole custody of their children. Nawazuddin, however, denied the allegations and claimed Aaliya was seeking Rs 30 crore in alimony.
However, in March 2023, it was reported that Nawazuddin had agreed to settle the dispute and withdraw his defamation suit against Aaliya. However, in a surprising turn of events, the couple reconciled in September 2025, citing their children’s well-being as the reason.
“In recent times, a few things have changed in my life. I felt that when we shared bad things with the world, we should also share the good ones. I feel what’s good should also be seen. Nawaz was also here so we celebrated the anniversary with the kids,” Aaliya told ETimes.
