Shraddha Kapoor’s upcoming biopic drama Eetha, based on the life of legendary Lavani exponent Vithabai Narayangaonkar, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. With the movie all set to hit theatres soon, there was a debate about its title, but now it looks like things are resolved.
As per an NDTV report, Laxman Utekar personally spoke to Vithabai’s family and made them understand why the movie has been named Eetha. The family is now happy with the title. Speaking to the portal, Vithabai’s grandson, Mohit Narayangaonkar, said, “Yes, absolutely, we are satisfied. He spoke to us over the phone. He will be coming to Narayangaon soon, but right now, he is busy with the editing work. We had requested that the film’s title be changed, but he explained
that in the rural areas, Vithabai was earlier known as ‘Eetha’. That is why they chose this title for the film. We have no problem with it now.”
“The film has been made in a very positive way. It presents the Tamasha and Lavani community in a very positive light and shows that better days lie ahead for them. We are satisfied. There is no issue,” Mohit further added.
Confirming Shraddha Kapoor and the entire team’s visit to Narayangaon ahead of the film’s release, he clarified, “Before the release, the entire team is coming to Narayangaon. I requested him that since Narayangaon is considered the pilgrimage of Tamasha, it would be wonderful if the first premiere begins from here. He responded positively and said everyone would come.”
About Eetha title role
The title had sparked debate after the Nationalist Congress Party’s Film and Cultural Department questioned why the biopic was named Eetha instead of using Vithabai Narayangaonkar’s name. Reports also claimed that some members of her family had reservations.
However, Vithabai’s eldest daughter, Mangala Bansode Karavadikar, later clarified that the family had no objection. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Eetha is based on the life of legendary Lavani artiste Vithabai Narayangaonkar. The film stars Shraddha Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and is set to release in theatres on August 28, 2026.
