Gurugram, Sep 5 (PTI) A three-year-old leopard was found dead in Paldi village in the foothills of the Aravallis in Nuh district, with forest officials investigating all possible causes of its sudden death, an official said on Saturday.
The discovery of the leopard’s body caused a stir among the villagers. Teams from the Forest Department and the Wildlife Department arrived at the scene, took possession of the carcass, and launched an investigation, the official said.
According to the police, a woman from the village went near the graveyard on Friday morning. She spotted a leopard lying at the foothills of the Aravallis. Upon closer inspection, she found the leopard dead. She immediately informed the villagers, who then notified the Police, Forest
Department and the Wildlife Department.
A team arrived at the scene and secured the leopard’s carcass. Preliminary examination revealed no external injuries on the body. The leopard was reportedly around three years old. An investigation into all possible causes of its sudden death has been initiated, said a wildlife officer.
Departmental officials are also investigating other possibilities, such as a bite from a venomous creature or a snake. A post-mortem of the leopard has been conducted. Viscera samples are being also sent to Bareilly for analysis. The cause of the leopard’s death will only become clear once the report is received.
“No external injuries were found on the leopard’s body. Further action will be taken based on the report, and surveillance in the area will be stepped up,” Wildlife Officer Ramkumar Jangra said. PTI COR SHS
