Chennai Super Kings climbed to fifth in the IPL 2026 table with their win over Lucknow Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Sunday as they chased down the target of 204 with 5 wickets spare.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad lauded his side’s effort towards their motto of sticking to the basics, crediting their principle for the massive overturn of fortunes following a slow start to the season.
The LSG opening pair took the score beyond the fifty-run mark in the fourth over, with Inglis reaching his own fifty in just 16 balls soon after. Anshul Kamboj broke the stand by dismissing Marsh for a run-a-ball 10, with Dewald Brevis taking a catch in the deep.
Inglis kept up his assault, while Nicholas Pooran managed only 1 off 3 deliveries before
being removed by Noor Ahmed in the first over after the powerplay, with Sarfaraz Khan taking a safe catch to send the Windies star back.
Overton rattled LSG in the 10th over with a double strike: Sanju Samson caught Inglis behind off an attempted scoop, and Pant was bowled by the Englishman soon after.
Overton completed his three-wicket haul by dismissing Akshat Raghuvanshi for 18 off 18 balls, with Urvil Patel completing the catch. Himmat Singh and Shahbaz Ahmed then steadied the innings with a 50-run partnership, before Kamboj removed Himmat for 17.
Shahbaz remained unbeaten on 43 off 25 deliveries, guiding LSG to 203/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Gaikwad and Samson opened the chase in steady fashion notching up a 45-run stand before the latter was removed by Digvesh Rathi for 28 runs off 14 balls. Urvil Patel walked in to take the game away from the opposition as he registered the joint-quickest half-century in the history of the league with his 13 ball half-century.
His carnage of 65 runs off just 23 balls, which included eight massive sixes, before Shahbaz removed the youngster. The LSG spinner doubled his tally with the wicket of Gaikwad for 42 off 28.
Brevis and Kartik Sharma chipped in with contributions of 10 and 20 runs respectively before falling to Digvesh and Avesh Khan, before Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer carried the hosts over the line unbeaten on 15 and 17 runs as CSK completed the chase with 4 balls to spare.
