The years keep stacking up, but The King still rules.
In his 24th NBA season — and fresh off an early injury — 40-year-old LeBron James reminded everyone why he’s still one of the game’s biggest forces.
The Lakers star unleashed a highlight-reel moment late in the second quarter, snagging the ball, charging downcourt, and detonating a vintage one-handed dunk right over San Antonio’s Luke Kornet.

The Lakers’ bench exploded. Crypto.com Arena rose as one. LeBron, even at 40, still knows exactly how to bring the house
down.
But the magic moment didn’t translate to a win.
A Wembanyama-less Spurs squad steamrolled the Lakers 132–119 to punch their ticket to the NBA Cup semifinals. And they did it behind a pair of massive performances: Stephon Castle dropped 30 points and 10 rebounds, while De’Aaron Fox added 20.
All this without Victor Wembanyama, who missed his 12th straight game due to a calf injury. Still, San Antonio have won nine of their last 12, and coach Mitch Johnson insisted pregame that Wemby is “very, very close” to returning.
The Spurs didn’t look like they missed him much. Seven players — including three off the bench — finished in double figures. Their pace and pressure were relentless, and the Lakers simply couldn’t keep up.
Los Angeles had its moments. Luka Doncic poured in 35, Marcus Smart returned from injury with 26 off the bench, and James added 19. But the Lakers never found the rhythm needed to match the Spurs’ speed.
“We had some good moments,” James admitted afterwards, “but the majority of the game we were playing uphill too much.”
Even with LeBron’s throwback fireworks, the Lakers spent the night chasing. The King still reigns supreme — but the mighty Spurs won the war tonight.
