New Delhi, Sep 2 (PTI) The Commerce Ministry will hold a national workshop on September 3 to sensitise states and exporters about market opportunities arising from India’s free trade agreements (FTAs), as the government steps up efforts to leverage these pacts to boost exports, an official said.
The “National Workshop on Leveraging FTAs-Outreach Programme” will be held at Bharat Mandapam here and will bring together senior officials from the Centre and states, the official said.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agarwal will address the stakeholders on these pacts.
India has finalised free trade agreements with the EU, UK, EFTA bloc, UAE, Oman, New Zealand, Australia, and Mauritius in the last four and a half
years. Pacts with the UK, EFTA bloc, UAE, Oman, Australia, and Mauritius have already been implemented.
The workshop will also discuss the status of FTAs signed by India and market opportunities emerging from these trade agreements.
The workshop will also feature six parallel state-focused breakout sessions, covering all states and Union Territories.
The agreements finalised by India cover 38 developed countries, collectively representing a GDP of USD 60 trillion.
The Free Trade Agreements concluded prior to 2014 collectively accounted for a GDP of USD 10 trillion at today’s value. PTI RR HVA
