Television star Rashami Desai has opened up about one of the most challenging phases of her life, revealing that she battled depression for nearly eight years. Known for her impactful performances in shows like Uttaran and Dil Se Dil Tak, the actress shared how carrying emotional “baggage” took a toll on her mental health before she gradually found balance and healing through work.
In a recent interaction with Times Now, Rashami reflected on her long and difficult journey, admitting that recovery was neither quick nor easy. She revealed how it took years of introspection and effort to rebuild herself emotionally and professionally.
‘Work Gave Me Peace,’ Says Rashami
Speaking candidly about her experience, Rashami said, “There was a time when I was in depression for eight years,
it took me time. There was a lot of baggage that I was carrying. It took me years to cut down on everything and start again and now I am back. Toh mughe aisa lagta hai ki highs and lows aap khud decide karte ho (So I feel that you yourself decide your highs and lows). Journey aapke kaam ki koi aur decide nahi karta. Work give me peace. And ye mera escape world bhi tha which I realised very late. Now I am working very finely on both the sides and I am keeping a beautiful balance.”
The actress added that it was only much later that she realised work had become her safe space where she could channel her emotions and find stability amid personal turmoil.
Rashami, who has also participated in several reality shows including Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 6, Nach Baliye 7, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7, said she now prioritises emotional well-being alongside her professional commitments.
Rashami On Facing the Casting Couch
In an older interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rashami had also spoken about a deeply disturbing incident from her early years in the industry, revealing she encountered the casting couch at just 16. Recalling the experience, she said, “I remember I was called for an audition, and when I went there, there was no one else except him. I was just 16 back then and he tried to get me unconscious. I was uncomfortable and somehow managed to come out from there and later, after a few hours, I told everything to my mother.”
