The much-loved period drama, Bridgerton, is officially returning for a fourth season, much to the delight of fans. Netflix had previously released the first official poster, offering a glimpse of what’s to come. But the streaming giant had kept fans on their toes as the official release date was not known- until now.
On Monday, the streaming giant released a teaser to announce the show’s premiere date. Season 4 will be released in two parts, with Part 1 releasing on January 29 and Part 2 releasing on February 26. This much-anticipated season is based on the third book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, An Offer From A Gentleman.
Bridgerton 4: Plot
The show, produced by Shondaland, continues to explore the high-society scandals and love stories
of the Bridgerton family in early 19th-century London. This time, the story shifts to Benedict Bridgerton, the family’s second son. Portrayed by Luke Thompson, Benedict is known for his artistic spirit and reluctance to conform to societal norms.
Unlike his siblings, he does not prioritise marriage until a fateful night changes everything. The upcoming season will focus on his unexpected romance with a mysterious woman he meets at a masquerade. Korean-Australian actress Yerin Ha joins the cast as Sophie Baek, a maid with a troubled past who attends the Bridgerton masquerade ball disguised in silver.
The show’s official synopsis reads, “When fate brings Benedict and Sophie back together, Benedict wrestles between the reality of his affection for this intriguing maid and the fantasy of the Lady in Silver — unaware that they are the same person. Will Benedict’s inability to see these women as one and the same derail the undeniable spark between him and Sophie? And can love truly conquer anything.”
Thompson previously described the story as a fresh take on the classic Cinderella tale. “The scripts that Jess [Brownell] and her team have come up with are dynamite. They’re really, really, really exciting,” he said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “It’s such a great story, but it’s also, I hope, really relatable.”
Meanwhile, Yerin Ha added that she felt an instant connection with her character: “What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles, something that she constantly has to overcome.”
Fans will also see the return of Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), whose friendship is stronger than ever. New characters include sisters Rosamund Li (Michelle Mao) and Posy Li (Isabella Wei), introduced to London society under the guidance of their mother, Araminta Gun (Katie Leung). Simone Ashley will reprise her role as Kate Bridgerton, and Golda Rosheuvel will return as Queen Charlotte, adding more excitement and drama to the season.
