Fresh reports claim that India Test and ODI captain, Shubman Gill, has been carrying a personal water purifier on tours for some time now, and it has no link with the recent incident of water contamination
in Indore – the venue of the third ODI against New Zealand – which claimed the lives of several people in the city. Gill made the headlines after several media outlets reported that the star batter has arrived in Indore with a personal filter in the backdrop of water contamination.
As per Cricbuzz and Dainik Jagran, Gill has been following a strict hydration habit since recovering from dengue, which impacted his participation at the 2023 ODI World Cup. The practice has become a part of his fitness routine.
Such machines, though, are regularly used by athletes from other disciplines.
The purifier was installed in the Indore hotel room that Gill is staying in.
Gill has been drinking from this alkaline water RO which is said to cost INR 3 lakh. Even Virat Kohli reportedly drinks alkaline water. India and New Zealand are currently squaring off in a three-match ODI series which is locked at one-all. The Gill-led India took a 1-0 lead after a four-wicket win in Vadodara earlier this month, where Kohli top-scored with 93 off 91 in a successful chase of 300.
New Zealand, despite fielding a depleted side, bounced back in Rajkot with a seven-wicket win. After keeping India to 284/7 despite a fine century from KL Rahul, the tourists chased down the target in 47.3 overs thanks to a brilliant unbeaten hundred from Daryl Mitchell. The third and final ODI is being held at the Holkar Cricket Stadium where India opted to bowl first.
New Zealand are eyeing history as they have never won a bilateral ODI series on Indian soil. In 2024, the Kiwis had created history by blanking India 3-0 in a three-match Test series – their first such triumph in India.
