24-year-old spinner Vignesh Puthur made his List A debut for Kerala on Wednesday (December 24) in Ahmedabad during their Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group A match against Tripura. In the fixture that Kerala won by 145 runs, Puthur entered his name in the history books. The former Mumbai Indians star, who will represent Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League after joining them for Rs 30 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction held in Abu Dhabi on December 16, became the first cricketer in the world on Wednesday to take six catches in a List A match.
Puthur, who hails from Mallapuram in Kerala, completed six catches as a fielder (non-wicketkeeper), which includes one of his own bowling.
The previous record of taking the most catches
in a List A match was in the name of legendary South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes. Rhodes completed five catches while playing for South Africa against the West Indies at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on November 14, 1993.
On May 29, 2025, England’s Harry Brook also took five catches as a fielder against the West Indies during an ODI match played in Birmingham.
In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Arien Sangma also took five catches as an outfielder for Meghalaya on January 3, 2025, in Mumbai against Sikkim.
