Novak Djokovic, who is in pursuit of his record 25th Grand Slam title, opened up on the youngsters Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have come to the fore of the sport in the past couple of years and tipped
them to dominate the courts moving forward.
Djokovic, who last won a Grand Slam event at the US Open in 2023 before Alcaraz and Sinner went on to split the eight subsequent Majors between them, believes that the duo deserves the limelight.
“I lost three out of four Slams against either Sinner or Alcaraz,” he said.
“We don’t need to praise them too much,” he added with a smile.
“They have been praised enough! We know how good they are, and they absolutely deserve to be where they are. They are the dominant forces in men’s tennis at the moment.”
The 10-time AO winner Djokovic, who shared the stage alongside Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer before usurping the celebrated duo in terms of number of Majors at the very least, looks to eke out a title and level the iconic Margaret Court’s tally of 25 Grand Slams.
Djokovic, who hasn’t played an official tournament since November, will begin his quest for a record-extending 11th crown in Melbourne with his fixture against Pedro Martinez of Spain at the Rod Laver Area on Monday.
Djokovic withdrew from his only scheduled warm-up tournament, admitting he needed more energy in his legs to compete with the two young stars at the end of the majors and aimed to remain as pain-free as possible.
Djokovic learned how to defeat Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, transforming their established rivalry into the Big Three, and eventually surpassing them both.
Djokovic also opened up about the perspective change he has adapted in recent times ad explained he has sought to lift the pressure off himself ahead of the AO.
