Actor Ishaan Khatter has carved a niche for himself in the film industry with his impressive acting skills. Not only has he been a part of some incredible Bollywood projects, he has also showcased his acting chops in the American miniseries, The Perfect Couple, which marked his Hollywood debut. In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Ishaan opened up about the difference between working in Hollywood and Bollywood, saying actors in India are far more coddled. He opened up about the absence of entourage culture in Hollywood, recalling that he didn’t have a single person from his team and managed everything on his own while shooting The Perfect Couple.
Ishaan Khatter On Working Without Entourage In Hollywood

The Hollywood Reporter India, Ishaan Khatter said that his understanding of entourage culture changed the moment he stepped onto a Hollywood set, while filming The Perfect Couple in Cape Cod. He recalled, “They gave me a house and a car and then asked me to drive myself to set.” There was no assistant, or his own personal team on set, and he worked without a single member from his entourage for over three months. “I was doing my own laundry every day. I was cleaning, cooking for myself, learning my lines while driving to set,” he said.
“I didn’t know a single person there; I didn’t have a single person from my team,” recalled Ishaan. He further added that in contrast, Indian actors are far more coddled. “We are very coddled, especially as actors,” he said. “Where is the limit? That should be an individual question. It can’t be the expectation generally,” he added.
Ishaan further added that it also depends on the project. He recalled that while shooting for Homebound, director Neeraj Ghaywan was very specific. They had one hair and makeup team for all the actors because there was a set look. “I was very happy to let go of my people,” he said. However, for The Royals, the makers needed him to look like a prodigy horse rider in two months, so they had to get him a coach.
Ishaan said that the problem starts when spending goes beyond what is necessary. “If it’s beyond what you need for the film, you shouldn’t incur that cost,” he said.
Ishaan Khatter made his Hollywood debut in the web series The Perfect Couple. The six-episode series, starring Nicole Kidman and Liev Schreiber in lead roles, released on Netflix on September 5, 2024.
