Star England all-rounder Craig Overton and his twin brother Jamie were the stars across world cricket over the weekend, as both played crucial roles in taking Somerset and the Chennai Super Kings to convincing wins in the County Championship and IPL 2026, respectively.
Jamie bowled a spell of 4-0-18-4 in the IPL clash against the Delhi Capitals, dismissing a high-flying Sameer Rizvi, David Miller, a well-set Tristan Stubbs and Auqib Nabi to ensure that DC’s chase of a whopping 213 never took flight.
But as Jamie bagged all the attention, thanks to the massive viewership of the Indian Premier League, his twin, Craig, blasted Essex in Division One of county cricket.
Put in to bat first on Friday, Essex were bowled out for a paltry 149, with Josh
Shaw picking three wickets, while Somerset skipper Craig picked two as well.
In their first innings, Somerset were reduced to 16/3 in the sixth over before wicketkeeper James Rew and Tom Abell steadied the innings with a 57-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
After Abell was dismissed by Shane Snater in the 19th over, Rew and Lewis Goldsworthy put on a 41-run stand for the fifth wicket.
After Rew was dismissed by Simon Harmer in the 31st over, Goldsworthy and Craig added 98 runs for the sixth wicket.
After Goldsworthy was dismissed by Jamie Porter in the 58th over, Craig and Will Smeed built a match-winning 118-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Craig was eventually dismissed by Snater in the 87th over, by which time he had scored 141 and led Somerset to 348.
In the second innings, Essex posted 245, riding on half-centuries from Paul Walter and Matt Critchley, asking Somerset to chase down just 47 runs. Craig picked two wickets in Essex’s second innings too.
Archie Vaughan, son of former England cricketer Michael Vaughan, and Joshua Thomas, took Somerset past the target in the sixth over of their chase.
