Film actor Vipin Sharma, celebrated for his nuanced performances in Taare Zameen Par and Gangs of Wasseypur
, recently opened up about his prolonged absence from Bollywood and the unexpected path that led to his comeback. In a candid conversation with IANS, the actor reflected on the 12-year gap that kept him away from the film sets and how returning to the industry felt like “starting all over again”.Sharma revealed that after his early work in cinema, he consciously stepped away from acting and spent over a decade abroad, where he rebuilt his creative life as an editor. But it was Taare Zameen Par, his first project upon returning, that marked a turning point. Recalling it, he said, “The first break is always special. You feel that your journey
has restarted. The first assignment remains unforgettable.”
Currently, Sharma is riding high on the success of Maharani Season 4, the political drama that premiered on Sony LIV on November 7, with Huma Qureshi in the lead. He credits producer Subhash Kapoor for bringing him on board, saying, “We had been in touch for almost fifteen years. We used to speak often and occasionally meet. I had a strong desire to work with him, and our friendship was very strong. When I met him and discussed this role, I didn’t need to think twice.”
Speaking about his craft, Sharma offered insight into how he approaches complex and negative characters, saying that he never overthinks it. For him, the profession of the character, be it a doctor, lawyer, or politician, doesn’t matter. He tries to understand the human underneath.
Once you connect with the emotions and mindset of the person, even the most challenging roles become easier to play, he explained.
