Rewari, Jul 3 (PTI) Police here have arrested two wanted criminals, who allegedly attempted to shoot a man dead earlier this week, following a brief encounter that left them with bullet injuries, officials said on Friday.
Mohan Soni, a resident of Bolni village, and Govind alias Jhamman, a resident of Jokhawas village in Rajasthan’s Khairthal-Tijara district allegedly opened fire on a police team after they were intercepted near the Sabi Railway Bridge on Thursday night, they said.
Superintendent of Police Hemendra Kumar Meena said the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Dharuhera, had laid a trap based on specific intelligence as the duo had been absconding since on June 28 when they allegedly fired at the residence of a man in Bakhapur village
with the intention to murder him over an old dispute.
On Thursday night, the police said the accused tried to break through barricades and opened indiscriminate fire on the police team.
A bullet hit the bulletproof jacket of Sub-Inspector Fakruddin, while another passed close to Inspector Yogesh Hooda’s ear. Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar also had a narrow escape, they said.
During the exchange of fire, Soni sustained a bullet injury in his right leg, while another bullet struck the left leg of Govind. Both were overpowered and taken to the Rewari Trauma Centre for treatment, SP Meena said.
According to police, both are involved in several criminal cases registered in Haryana and Rajasthan, including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, robbery, dacoity, extortion, theft and Arms Act offences.
Of these, Govind is involved in 16 criminal cases, while Mohan Soni is involved in 8 cases.
Two pistols, empty cartridges, and a motorcycle without a registration number plate used in the crime were recovered from their possession. PTI COR SUN SMV SMV SKY SKY
