Yash and Kiara Advani starrer Toxic: A Fairytale For Adults was finally released in theatres on August 26. In the film, Yash and Kiara romance each other and shoot several bold scenes together, including the song Tabaahi. While fans have largely appreciated their chemistry, a certain section of the audience has also dropped misogynistic comments on Sidharth Malhotra’s Instagram after the film’s release.
Why Is Sidharth Malhotra Getting Trolled?
Sidharth, who is married to Kiara, recently took to social media to post an advertisement reel. Many took to its comment section to drop Yash and Kiara’s GIFs from Toxic. Some even trolled him for Kiara’s bold scenes in the film. Remarks like “Teri biwi Yash ke saath hai dekh le,” and “Aap kaise husband
ho, yeh movie kaise banane diya?” are all too visible in the comments section.
Someone wrote, “Divorce is the only solution.” Another comment read, “Don’t worry, this is AI.” Another person wrote, “Koi Yash ko dhoond ke isko dedo.” A comment read, “Meri humdardi tumhare saath hai.” Someone else added, “Sidharth wants justice.” The comments section also has several vile comments about Kiara’s pregnancy during the film’s shoot.
Yash And His Wife Didn’t Get Trolled: Problem Of Patriarchy
No such comments have been made under Yash’s wife Radhika Pandit’s posts. This was also the case when the Tabaahi song was first released. Some social media users noted that this points to the larger, problematic patriarchal structure of Indian society where women are unfairly scrutinised, objectified and made emblems of a man’s dignity.
On the other hand, it is more “acceptable” for a man to do bold scenes. Moreover, it also reflects how some Indian fans fail to differentiate between reel and real, often equating cinema with life. Similar trolling comments were also made under Sidharth’s birthday post for Kiara, but the actors’ fans quickly jumped to their defence.
A comment read, “He has always come across as someone really secure, who understands what his wife does is her work and has always praised her for setting aside her professional life and fame power away from their personal lives.”
Another fan wrote, “… I saw the typical Rocky Bhai comments; it was disgusting and annoying. What’s sad is it’s only Kiara who’s getting shamed. Why should it always be like that? If they are making Kiara look bad just because she is married and has a kid, shouldn’t the same be applied to Yash too, who is also married and has kids? Or is it that logic doesn’t apply when it comes to shaming a woman?”
How Did Yash Defend Kiara?
Kiara Advani has been facing backlash for her scenes ever since the film’s teaser and songs were first released. Yash came to her defence when, at Toxic’s trailer launch, he said, “The kind of role you have performed in this is just a glimpse in the trailer. You are so dedicated, man.”
He added, “I have seen you like work so hard, and you know initially we all thought, okay, when you get all these actors there could be a problem, and there could be so many issues. But I think the start, the beginning, is that Kiara was so down to earth; she dedicated herself and surrendered to this vision in the way she has performed.”
“And what you have to go through as an actor, unfortunately, don’t care (about it). Whatever you believe in, you should do, and people will celebrate, people will appreciate. It’s just that we are a little ahead of the times,” he added. Kiara has also repeatedly called Toxic her boldest film yet.
Kiara Called Toxic Her ‘Toughest’ Film
Last year, when Kiara’s character poster as Nadia was unveiled, she wrote on Instagram, “A role that demanded more from me – physically, mentally, emotionally and felt nothing short of transformative. My toughest one yet. Months of hard work. One fearless leap. To see this first look receive so much love means everything. Grateful beyond words.”
Kiara and Sidharth are yet to react to the misogynistic comments.
