Virat Kohli on Sunday (April 12) became the first cricketer to surpass 1,000 T20 runs (including the IPL and CLT20) against the Mumbai Indians. The maestro achieved the mark in the2026 IPL clash at the Wankhede Stadium. He needed only 20 runs to get to the mark, which he did in just 11 balls.
Kohli left his India teammates KL Rahul (977) and Shikhar Dhawan (901) in his wake. Eight of the top-10 players on the list were Indians, with the other two being AB de Villiers and David Warner. Expectedly, Kohli was the only player to do it with just one team, his beloved RCB, his home since IPL’s inaugural 2008 season.
Rahul has an overall better record against Kohli, considering he was only marginally behind the ex-India skipper in almost half the matches.

Rahul is also ahead of Kohli in terms of runs against MI in the IPL, with the latter’s tally at 944 when he was at 20 in the ongoing match at the Wankhede. However, considering how good Kohli looked at the venue at the time of writing this piece, that record would also be only a matter of time.
As the highest run-scorer in the IPL, MI are not the first team he has crossed the 1000-run mark against, with Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings already in the club. But doing so against arguably the best T20 team in the world, which has fielded some of the great bowlers of the game, is not mean feat.
