Kylian Mbappé now tops the list of players with the most goals in FIFA World Cup history. The 27-year-old has scored two goals for France in the second half of the ongoing third-place play-off match against England in Miami on Saturday (July 18), taking his tally to 22 goals in just 22 FIFA World Cup matches.
Mbappé is now one goal ahead of Lionel Messi on the all-time FIFA World Cup goalscoring charts. Messi, who will lead Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final against Spain on Sunday (July 19) in East Rutherford, has scored 21 goals in 32 World Cup matches across six editions.

The two assists by Olise have also helped him break Pelé’s record of six assists in a single edition of the FIFA World Cup. Pelé provided six assists for Brazil during the 1970 FIFA World Cup, whereas Olise has now registered seven assists in the ongoing 2026 edition for Les Bleus.
The all-time record for the most assists in a single FIFA World Cup edition is held by former France star Raymond Kopa. Kopa provided eight assists for Les Bleus during the 1958 FIFA World Cup. Therefore, Olise now needs just one more assist to equal the record and two more to become the outright record holder.
