Jos Buttler and Harry Brook unleashed a jaw-dropping assault on Saturday, leaving India shell-shocked in the fifth T20I. The duo turned Southampton into a demolition zone with Buttler blending brute force en route to a blistering 131, while Brook tore into the attack with an unbeaten 95-run knock. India were scrambling for answers as the pair stitched together a monstrous 233-run stand for the second wicket. Every Indian misstep was punished as England ran riot to post a mammoth 257/3 in 20 overs.
The Buttler-Brook blitz helped England register the highest team total against India in T20Is, bettering their previous best of 246/7 at Wankhede Stadium while chasing 254 in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final.

The staggering
233-run stand for the second wicket is now the highest partnership for any wicket in T20Is, putting England on course to end India’s long reign atop the ICC rankings.
Brook was electric, racing to 95 not out off 45 balls, bringing up his fifty in just 19 deliveries, while Buttler accelerated masterfully after a steady start. His first fifty came off 34 balls, but the next took just 17 more as he finished with 12 fours and eight sixes in a career-best knock.
After Prasidh Krishna dismissed Phil Salt early, India lost control completely. Buttler’s audacious strokeplay, including a stunning one-handed pull, stood out, while Brook dominated with fearless footwork and clean hitting. Axar Patel and Prince Yadav bore the brunt as England hammered 16 sixes, leaving skipper Shreyas Iyer visibly out of options.
