Women’s safety remains a pressing concern in India, but incidents of stalking and harassment don’t spare men either. This time, a Delhi resident described a chilling encounter that left him feeling unsafe
in the city for the first time in four years. Sharing his experience on Reddit, he claimed that a stranger followed him from a metro station late at night, an incident that left him shaken and deeply alarmed.
According to his post, the incident unfolded last week when his 11:30 pm train was delayed by six hours. Opting to return home and come again in the morning, he boarded the last metro at 11:45 pm and reached his station around 12:20 am. The station was nearly empty, and he soon noticed a man repeatedly staring at him near the exit.
“I ignored it, thinking he also just wanted to exit. But then I saw him again near the lift. The lift had just gone up, so I took the escalator instead. When I came out of the station, the same guy was already outside, looking around weirdly,” he said.
At first, he brushed it off and continued walking the 2 km towards his home. But moments later, he noticed the same man trailing behind him. While he initially felt safe because a few people were still around, the situation turned unsettling when the street emptied, and the stranger continued following him, step for step.
Reddit User Called His Mother
Sensing danger, he called his mother and stayed on the line till he reached home, without revealing the situation. As the OP got closer to home, he had to choose between a dark park and the colony gate, which is usually shut after 12.
He shared, “I was about to take the park side because it’s my usual shortcut, but then I saw a guy from my colony collecting a Domino’s order. The moment I saw him, I changed my route and went towards the colony gate instead. I entered my colony safely.”
“When I turned back, the same guy was staring at me like hell. And this was around 1 AM,” he wrote.

“Yes mahnnnn…Delhi is not safe for men, too. I was returning from a dinner from the HKV road in Delhi. My home was very very close to HKV, so I decided to walk alone. It was 11 pm, in November. A Mercedes began to glide at a slow pace right next to me. I stopped and saw that these were 4 muscular guys sitting inside. I asked them kya chahiye, they said, “tere sath s*x karna hai, Teri chahiye humein, aaja Gurgaon le chale tujhe.” Main jo bhaaga vahan se apne Ghar, which was just a 100 metres away. I saw those jackals still looking at me as they sped up their car!!!” shared a user.
An account posted, “Nowadays, men are also being harassed a lot.”

The user ended the post expressing that it was the first time he felt genuinely unsafe in Delhi despite frequently travelling at night. “Earlier also I boarded late night trains and roam around late night in Delhi but For the first time in 4 years I felt scared /unsafe in Delhi!!” he concluded.
