Nishaanchi, the Anurag Kashyap-directed crime drama featuring debutant Aaishvary Thackeray in a dual role as twin brothers, has been receiving praise for its raw energy, compelling performances, and unfiltered storytelling. Released on September 19, it explores the fractured bond between two brothers who walk different paths and shape their destinies with their choices.
Despite positive reviews, Nishaanchi seemed to have struggled at the box office. This could be due to its clash with Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s courtroom drama, Jolly LLB 3.
Nishaanchi Box Office Collection
According to sacnilk.com, the film collected just Rs 21 lakhs on Sunday, taking the film’s total 3-day collection to Rs 85 Lakhs, net in India. This is the lowest single-day
total since its release. Anurag Kashyap’s latest film opened with Rs 25 Lakhs on Day 1 and saw a slight growth on Day 2 with Rs 39 Lakhs. However, it appears that Jolly LLB 3’s positive response has significantly impacted the collection of Nishaanchi.
Anurag Kashyap On Making Nishaanchi
Recently speaking to IMDb, the filmmaker opened up about making Nishaanchi and said, “I made Nishaanchi to undo Gangs of Wasseypur. The two films are just as different as Wasseypur and Kanpur are, around 800 km apart. Secondly, after Wasseypur, everyone thinks I invented swear words; they didn’t think swear words existed before Wasseypur, so I had to undo that as well. I’m tired of people asking for Gangs of Wasseypur 3, which is the easter egg that my producer put in the teaser that we’ll make our gang – Babloo Nishaanchi, Rangeeli Rinku, and Dabloo, this isn’t the gang from Wasseypur, and then the line comes – ‘Mien dungah jawab, mien hu Raja Hindustan’ (I’ll give the answer, I am Raja Hindustani).”
