Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan is going to be his last film, as the actor recently announced his retirement after a 33-year-long and illustrious career. The actor has delivered some of the biggest hits in the Tamil industry, and his last outing is scheduled for theatrical release on 9 January 2026. The movie will face a box office clash with Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi, releasing just a day later, on 10 January 2026.
While the two movies are going to face a box office clash, this has left Vijay’s fans upset, who have now shown their anger by tearing posters of Sivakarthikeyan’s film placed outside Ritzy Cinemas in Madurai during the Jana Nayagan trailer screening.

Videos of fans tearing down Parasakthi posters and throwing them on the ground have highlighted the devotion of Vijay’s fans and have sparked conversations. An X user, @madraspaiyanda, who shared the video, questioned why Vijay’s fans couldn’t “tolerate even a single film clash” with his releases and speculated on their reaction when he officially enters politics.
Why the film is drawing attention
Jana Nayagan has been in the spotlight not only for its box office momentum but also because it marks Vijay’s final film before his planned transition into active politics.
Is Jana Nayagan a remake? Director H. Vinoth responds
“I’ll repeat what I said at the music launch,” he told Cinema Vikatan. “Whether this story is a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari, or whether a few scenes were adapted, or even if just one scene was inspired by it – whatever it is – audiences need not worry about that.”
He added that viewers should watch the film before forming a conclusion.
Vijay announces retirement
At the much-awaited audio launch event of his movie Jana Nayagan in Malaysia, actor-politician Vijay said he decided to “give up cinema” to “stand up” for his fans who offered him everything, including a ‘kottai’ (fort).
“When I entered cinema, I thought I was building a small sand house here. But you all have built me a palace. Fans helped me build a fort… That’s why I’ve decided to stand for them. For the fans who gave up everything for me, I’m giving up cinema itself,” the actor said.
