Starting October 1, 2026, domestic LPG consumers will get subsidised gas cylinder refills at regulated prices only if they complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA).
How to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA)? Can it be done on phone? Who is exempted? What happens if you don’t do it? All you need to know.
WHAT HAS CHANGED?
Starting October 1, 2026, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is enforcing strict guidelines regarding domestic LPG cylinder bookings and subsidies across India. To get an LPG refill at the regulated retail selling price with the government subsidy, you must have your Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) completed. Aside from the Aadhaar rule, the government has unified the refill booking gap. Both urban and rural consumers
can now book their next cylinder 25 days after the previous booking (replacing the temporary 45-day rule for rural areas).
WHO ARE EXEMPTED?
Approximately 89.9% of active domestic consumers (27.43 crore people) who completed their verification during the government’s months-long e-KYC drive do not need to do anything. Their bookings and subsidies will continue seamlessly.
No specific category of domestic consumer is permanently exempt from the e-KYC mandate; it applies to all domestic connections to clear out duplicate or commercial misuse.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T DO IT?
Your cylinder supply will not be stopped. However, you will be blocked from getting the cylinder at the subsidised regulated rate.
You will have to pay the prevailing commercial/market price out of pocket.
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been instructed that non-compliant connections may face restrictions, such as only being allowed to book smaller 5 kg or 10 kg refills instead of the standard 14.2 kg domestic cylinders.
HOW TO COMPLETE AUTHENTICATION
The biometric e-KYC process is completely free of cost. You can do it using any of these authorized methods:
At Your Doorstep: You can request the delivery personnel to perform the biometric scan on their device when they deliver your next cylinder.
At the Distributor Showroom: Walk into your local gas agency with your Aadhaar card and consumer details to complete the fingerprint or iris scan.
Online via Mobile Apps (Face Authentication): You can complete it from home using your smartphone. This requires installing two apps from the Play Store or App Store:
1. Download the Aadhaar FaceRD app (developed by UIDAI to enable face scanning).
2. Download your specific gas provider’s application:
- Indane Gas: IndianOil ONE
- Bharatgas: HelloBPCL
- HP Gas: HP PAY
3. Open your gas provider app, log in using your registered mobile number, select e-KYC / Aadhaar Authentication, and follow the face-scan prompts.
