India won series opener in Nagpur
The first T20I of the ongoing series between India and New Zealand was played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday (January 21), and India won that fixture by 48 runs. In the first T20I, world No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma scored 84 runs from 35 balls. During his stay at the crease, he slammed 5 fours and 8 sixes for the Suryakumar Yadav-led side and helped them post a total of 238 runs on the board.
The target of 239 runs proved too much for the Black Caps, and despite Glenn Phillips’ 78-run knock from 40 balls, they could only manage to score 190/7 in 20 overs.
For India, world No. 1 T20I bowler Varun Chakaravarthy and all-rounder Shivam Dube picked up two wickets, and one Kiwi batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Axar Patel.
