LIVE Updates: Bangladesh’s first woman Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia died at the age of 80 while under treatment at Dhaka’s Apollo Hospital this morning, the party said.

In a brief statement, the BNP confirmed that the veteran leader had passed away after battling multiple health complications.

Khaleda Zia, a two-time Prime Minister, remained one of the most influential and polarising figures in Bangladesh’s political history.
