North India is gripped with dense fog, and a cold wave has severely impacted daily routine. Flight and train operations across several parts of the country were severely disrupted on Monday as dense fog reduced
visibility. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted fog over the next two days too.
The Civil Aviation Ministry has issued a passenger advisory, urging passengers to stay updated through airlines’ official communication channels.
IMD issued a fog alert on X and posted, “Dense to very dense fog is expected tonight and into the morning of 30th December across several regions including Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of the Northeast, East, and North India. Visibility may be severely reduced, making travel risky. Please drive slowly, use fog lights, and avoid unnecessary journeys.”

At Delhi airport, 128 flights were cancelled—64 arrivals and 64 departures. Additionally, eight flights were diverted, and over 30 flights were delayed as visibility dropped to approximately 125 metres, causing significant disruptions and terminal congestion, leading to long waits for passengers.
In the national capital, several trains faced operational disruptions due to the dense fog. Passengers at New Delhi Railway Station experienced unprecedented delays and schedule changes.
“I have to go to Kanpur, but the train is running late by eight hours due to dense fog…,” Gagan told ANI. Due to train operational delays, taxi drivers also reported reduced business at the station, as trains are running late due to fog. Shivkumar, a taxi driver, said there is no work at the station because trains have been running late.
“For now, there is no work because there is so much fog. No road is visible, trains are getting delayed, and if trains arrive on time and the road is visible, then an individual can travel,” Shivkumar told ANI.
