In a shocking twist, the father of the 20-year-old Delhi University student who claimed that she suffered burn injuries after an acid attack has now been held by the Delhi Police for plotting the fake acid attack story to frame the three men.
He has confessed that he plotted the whole conspiracy, news agency PTI reported, citing police officials. He also revealed that his daughter was carrying a toilet cleaner from home, which she poured on her hands.
What’s The Case?
A 22-year-old BCom student at Delhi University alleged an acid attack on her when she was on her way to attend an extra class at Lakshmibai College.
As per her statement, the main accused, Jitender, a resident of Mukundpur, arrived on a two-wheeler along with two friends, Ishan and Arman. She claimed
that Ishan handed a bottle to Arman, who threw a flammable substance at her. She managed to shield her face but sustained burns on her hand.
She also claimed that Jitendra had been stalking her for some time, and there was a fight between the two a month ago.
Police Find Loopholes
However, police suspected certain discrepancies in the survivor’s story. As per the police, the location of the main accused was found to be away from the crime scene.
The police further raised suspicion about the woman getting off an e-rickshaw 200 metres away from the college, news agency PTI reported. Furthermore, a source claimed that police did not find any acid traces on the wall near the alleged crime spot.
Investigation has also revealed that Jitender was allegedly not in the area when the alleged attack took place.
“So far, his location at the time of the incident does not place him at the crime scene. Multiple angles are being verified. His call detail records (CDR) show him in the Karol Bagh area and not on the crime scene,” an officer was quoted as saying by PTI.
Police also said that the CCTV footage around the crime scene also does not locate the main accused nearby.
Woman’s Father Confesses To Plot
As per media reports, the survivor’s father, Aqeel, said that Jitender’s wife was filing a rape case against him, and hence, he decided to frame him in the acid attack case.
Earlier today, Jitendra’s wife alleged that the victim’s father was in possession of her private photos, and accused him of exploiting her. On the basis of the allegation, police questioned Khan and arrested him when he revealed that he had fabricated the story of an acid attack, and the liquid in question was ordinary toilet cleaner.
The Delhi Police is set to take legal action under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the accused and his daughter for plotting the fake story.
