Star India pacer Gurnoor Brar has said that there was excitement to do well for the country when he made his debut against Afghanistan on Saturday, June 6, adding that he just gave his best and things fell into place on what was one of the most important days of his career.
The 6-foot-5-inch Brar, who had long served as a net bowler with the Indian team before earning his ODI debut cap from captain Shubman Gill, impressed with pace exceeding 145 kmph in his very first over and made the ball shape away.
Brar started well, sending his first two balls away from a full length before pulling his length back to draw an error from opener Ibrahim Zadran, whose mistimed aerial shot was caught at mid-off.
“Obviously, I would not say there was pressure, but
there was excitement…Like, I have to do well for India, I have to bowl well. Obviously, everyone wants to give their best here and I was doing the same,” Brar said while speaking to Gill, a video of which was shared by BCCI.

“I just had to give my best and with God’s grace it went well,” Brar said.
Brar earned his ODI call-up after brilliant performances in last season’s Vijay Hazare Trophy and also has over 50 wickets from just 18 first-class games.
In Dharamsala too, Brar impressed with his sharp pace as he clocked above 145 clicks, stretching the speed gun to a highest mark of 148.2 kmph.
Gill, who has tracked Brar’s progress, spoke to him about his emotions on receiving his maiden India cap and the experience of taking his first international wicket. Brar said that he felt composed and relieved after claiming that opening breakthrough.
