The Indian men’s cricket team have joined several other sporting contingents in facing issues ahead of their Asian Games campaign, with the team hit by a sudden clothing glitch just before they departed for Nagoya, according to a report in PTI.
Members of the Indian men’s cricket team are awaiting the right-size kits ahead of their departure for the Asian Games in the wee hours of Sunday, September 20.
As per the report, there has been considerable back-and-forth between BCCI and the Indian Olympic Association’s kit supplier, JSW Inspire, over the players’ jerseys.
The Shreyas Iyer-led team is scheduled to depart from the national capital early in the morning on Sunday.
India’s players will wear their standard kit for the one-off T20I against Japan
on Tuesday before switching to the official Asian Games jersey for the competition, which starts on September 28.
“There was a sizing issue in the kits of cricketers; the majority of them have been rectified. There are a few left and they will be delivered to the team shortly. With players needing two different jerseys there (one for bilateral and another for Asian Games), this can happen,” an Indian Olympic Association source said while speaking to PTI.
Meanwhile, considering the accommodation delays faced by other Indian athletes in Nagoya, BCCI has decided to make its own hotel arrangements for the competition. There are concerns over the cricketing facilities as well, including the playing field.
The Indian women’s team, however, has been staying in the accommodation provided by the IOA.
“The women’s team accommodation was never an issue. The rooms provided by the organisers for the men’s team didn’t even have space to keep the kit bags. There aren’t many big hotels there, but BCCI has managed to make its own arrangements before their departure to Japan,” a source said while speaking to PTI.
