Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday held a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump and discussed Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy grid and lauded Trump’s peace efforts
in Gaza.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy asserted that if a war in one region can be stopped, then “surely” the “Russian war” can be ended as well, as he urged the US President to broker peace in Ukraine like he did in the Middle East.
“I had a call with US President Donald Trump—a very positive and productive one. I congratulated @POTUS on his success and the Middle East deal he was able to secure, which is an outstanding achievement. If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well—including the Russian war,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X following talks with Trump.

He further informed Trump about Russia’s recent attack on Kyiv’s energy system, adding that he appreciates the US President’s “willingness to support us”.
According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders also discussed opportunities to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, as well as concrete agreements that the two sides are working to ensure this.
“I informed President Trump about Russia’s attacks on our energy system—and I appreciate his willingness to support us. We discussed opportunities to bolster our air defense, as well as concrete agreements that we are working on to ensure this. There are good options and solid ideas on how to truly strengthen us,” he added.
Relations between the two Presidents have warmed dramatically since February, when they sparred during a now-infamous televised meeting at the White House.
Trump has since called Zelenskyy a “nice guy” and maintained support for Ukraine, which has been fighting a Russian invasion since 2022.
“He’s a brave man, and he’s putting up one hell of a fight… we have about 30 meetings scheduled today… but this is an important one — and we have great respect for the fight that Ukraine is putting up,” Trump had said.
The two leaders previously met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September. The meeting focused on pushing Russia to end the conflict, with President Zelenskyy calling for additional US sanctions on Moscow and increased support for Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
