India’s T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has said that Prince Yadav’s injury might lead to the team changing the playing XI in the third and final T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday, July 26, after the team had already bagged an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Prince hobbled off the field clutching his hamstring after pulling up midway through his run-up on the second delivery of his second over. By then, the right-arm pacer had already claimed two wickets.
Prince is the latest entrant into India’s injury club, which has only been increasing since the last two months.
“One of our players got injured unfortunately, so you might see a few changes tomorrow (Sunday),” Iyer said while speaking at the post-match presentation.
Ironically, Prince
was named as an injury replacement for Harshit Rana after the latter injured himself during the T20I series against England. It needs to be seen if Prince recovers soon or has to pay a visit to the Centre of Excellence like Rana.
India, powered by Ishan Kishan’s 81 and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 60, posted 219/5 before bowling Zimbabwe out for a paltry 129 in the 18th over to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
“The way Ishan and Tilak played was outstanding. I thought 180-200 would be par score, but we ended up getting 220, which was the icing on the cake,” Iyer said.
“That is how you have to approach the game; it is about the attitude. Be in the present and try to execute,” Iyer added.
Kishan, who struck nine boundaries and two sixes during his 44-ball innings, admitted that batting on the pitch wasn’t easy.
“I didn’t feel that the wicket was where you can just go and score runs. There was the odd bounce for a few deliveries, so we felt we needed partnerships,” Kishan said.
