Delhi Police Set Up Special Task Force To Probe Paper Leaks, Exam Offences Amid NEET Uproar

Delhi Police has set up a Special Task Force (STF) within its Crime Branch to investigate paper leaks and other examination-related offences amid the nationwide uproar over the alleged NEET paper leak. The move comes as youth-led protests demanding stronger action against exam fraud continue across the country.

Thousands of supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have been protesting since June, calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over repeated exam paper leak cases. The main protest site has been at Jantar Mantar in the national capital.

According to an official order, Delhi Police Commissioner approved the formation of the STF under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

The new unit has been created to ensure prompt, professional and comprehensive investigations into offences linked to recruitment and entrance examinations conducted by central agencies.

The STF will investigate cases related to examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), National Testing Agency (NTA), as well as recruitment tests organised by central government ministries, departments and their attached and subordinate offices.

It will also have the authority to probe cases involving any other examination body notified by the central government.

Besides carrying out investigations, the STF has been directed to work closely with prosecuting agencies to ensure speedy prosecution and day-to-day trial of cases registered under the Act.

The unit will be headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, while the Special Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, will oversee its overall functioning and administrative control.

According to the order, the Special Commissioner will issue directions to ensure effective investigations and diligent prosecution of cases.
