Delhi Capitals’ torrid run continued in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, with their 5th defeat this season. On Tuesday night, DC suffered an 8-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings, and now, their playoff chances are hanging by a fine thread.
With the playoff race tightening, DC find themselves needing a near-perfect finish to stay alive, with every remaining fixture now carrying virtual knockout stakes.

How Can DC Still Qualify For The Playoffs
To be comfortably in contention, DC generally target a minimum of 16 points, though on some occasions 14 points have been enough to sneak into 4th place when other results and Net Run Rate tilt in their favour.
In the most straightforward path, DC have to win all 4 of their remaining
matches, which would lift them to 16 points. The complication is their current NRR of -0.949, the second-worst in the competition.
Even with 16 points, they would be relying on huge victories to dramatically boost that NRR and get ahead of sides such as RCB, SRH, or RR, who are already on 12 points and possess significantly stronger run rates.
The alternative route is far more precarious. If DC manage only 3 wins from their last 4 games, they end up on 14 points. For that total to be enough, several teams currently above them in the standings (SRH, RR, GT, CSK) would have to lose almost all of their remaining fixtures.
Considering PBKS, RCB, SRH, RR, and GT already sit on 12 or 13 points with multiple matches still to play, the ‘math’ turns heavily against DC, leaving their qualification hopes hanging by a very thin thread.
