A video showing activist Sonam Wangchuk’s final moments inside Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital has surfaced, in which he is seen confronting hospital staff and a police officer while seeking permission to leave the facility.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, was reportedly recorded on July 21, the day the Delhi High Court directed that Wangchuk be shifted to a hospital of his choice. Wangchuk had been moved to Safdarjung Hospital from the Jantar Mantar protest site on July 18 during his hunger strike.
In the video, a visibly agitated Wangchuk can be heard questioning the decision to keep him at the hospital and accusing the authorities of harassing him.
“Ask them to arrest me. Why keeping me here… you all are harassing me. If I die of
stress, it’ll be your responsibility. Please open; I’m going. Arrest me if you want. Shameless people,” Wangchuk said.
He further questioned the conduct of the hospital staff, saying, “You’re a doctor or a butcher. Ask your doctor. I wanted to go out with gratitude, but now I’m sorry to say that I’m having to leave with this comment. Worst organisation; you have sold your souls.”
“Arrest me. You can stop wherever you want. Let the nation know,” he added.
This is the video from Safdarjung hospital in Delhi where Sonam Wangchuk was under medical observation. After the high court order, he was leaving for Medanta when Safdarjung hospital staff tried to stop him on July 21.

His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, who has been spearheading Wangchuk’s campaign against paper leaks during his hospitalisation, is also heard questioning the conduct of police personnel in the video.
“You are being rude… Do you have orders to behave so arrogantly?” she says. Wangchuk is then seen walking out of the hospital room.
Safdarjung Clarifies
Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday issued a clarification over the viral video showing Wangchuk confronting hospital staff and seeking to leave the facility, saying the video was allegedly recorded by his aides on July 21, 2026, inside the hospital premises in a no-videography zone.
The hospital said the video was released later and was reportedly recorded before the administration received the written order of the Delhi High Court. According to the hospital, Wangchuk insisted on leaving the facility based on information available in the media at that time.
The hospital further stated that Wangchuk was handed over to a team of doctors from Medanta Gurugram on the same day at 6:40 PM, immediately after the written court order was received.
Sonam Wangchuk’s Hunger Strike
Sonam Wangchuk, who began a 26-day hunger strike in support of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protesting against the NEET-UG paper leak, also alleged that he was “treated like a prisoner” at the Safdarjung Hospital.
Wangchuk, 59, was removed from Jantar Mantar by Delhi Police during his hunger strike, citing medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court.
He ended his hunger strike late on Thursday after receiving assurances from the government that no legal action would be taken against peaceful protesters, discussions on examination reforms would be held in Parliament, and the issue of compensation for families of students who died by suicide following the alleged NEET paper leak was being positively considered.
