Shark Tank Season 5 is proving to be as entertaining as ever. The latest episode reached a boiling point when an entrepreneur from Vadodara presented a plant growth device and claimed it was developed
by NASA.
His bold claims and pitch sparked strong reactions from all the sharks, including Namita Thapar, Anupam Mittal, Aman Gupta, Amit Jain and Ritesh Agarwal, making for a tense and dramatic showdown in the tank.
Sharks Lash Out At Pitcher
The pitcher, Shubham Upadhyay, appeared for his company, Planyt, and presented their plant growth device with patented technology, which was “developed by NASA”. He came seeking Rs. 1.05 crore in exchange for 6.5 per cent of his company, valuing it at Rs. 16.15 crore. Not only did Shubham’s pitch fail to secure a deal, but the sharks also called him delusional for believing in his company’s idea.
Among Shubham’s many claims was that he started his company with the aim of ending hunger. However, when he revealed that a standard family of five would need to spend at least Rs. 7.5 lakh on his products, Anupam Mittal was shocked. Shubham added that he has been running the company since 2021, but it is still pre-revenue.
He also shared that he has never had a job and has sold only 80–100 units over the last four years, all at a discounted price. He said that using the product provides plants with a misty atmosphere so they are hydrated and get perfect conditions at all times. When Shark Amit Jain asked Shubham about the biggest drawback of his product, he admitted that it required electricity 24 hours a day.
Anupam Mittal Calls Pitcher ‘Delusional’
When asked if he developed the technology by himself, Shubham said it was made by NASA, but they “kind of perfected it.” When Anupam asked Shubham about the funds raised so far, he claimed he had been “heavily funded” by the government, which was actually only Rs. 10 lakh. Shocked by the gap between expectation and reality, Anupam snapped, asking, “Tujhe sharam nahi aayi?”

Anupam continued by saying no one was reflecting reality to him and called him delusional, questioning how the product could solve hunger. Frustrated, he exited the negotiation. Namita Thapar was gentler but still advised Shubham to shut down the business. Ritesh Agarwal urged him to reconsider his purpose, while Amit Jain suggested exploring ways to use the technology to build a viable business. Aman Gupta was blunt, calling Shubham ‘delulu’ and his product a useless machine, even saying he wouldn’t take 50 per cent equity for Rs 1.
After leaving the tank, Shubham told the camera that he was offended by the personal comments made against him.
