Indian Olympic Association treasurer Sahdev Yadav, who also leads the national weightlifting body, has been appointed Chef de Mission for the Asian Games next year. The event is set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya,
Japan, from September 23 to October 8.
Achanta Sharath Kamal, India’s most celebrated men’s table tennis player, will serve as the deputy Chef de Mission. He will be part of a 15-member committee formed by the Sports Ministry to oversee preparations for the quadrennial event.
The committee will be chaired by the sports secretary, with IOA president PT Usha serving as co-chair. Among the distinguished members are London Olympic medallist and Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) member Gagan Narang, who also served as India’s Chef de Mission at the Paris Olympics last year.
Former India hockey player Viren Rasquinha joins the committee as a member of MOC and as a sportsperson of outstanding merit.
Other prominent members include Kunal, joint secretary of sports, Khelo India joint secretary Vineel Krishna, IOA CEO Raghu Iyer, Hangzhou Asian Games Chef de Mission BS Bajwa, along with the head of TAGG (Target Asian Games Group), Executive Director (ED) Teams, and the CEO of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
