In a move aimed at making daily travel more affordable and encouraging the use of public transport, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation has reduced the price of its weekly pass for Vajra air-conditioned
bus services.
Alongside this, the transport body has also introduced 2 new non-AC bus routes within the city to improve last-mile connectivity in select areas. The decisions are expected to benefit regular office commuters as well as residents in neighbourhoods that rely heavily on BMTC buses for daily travel.
Vajra Weekly Pass Price Reduced to Rs 700
BMTC has reduced the weekly pass fare for Vajra AC bus services by Rs 50. The revised price now stands at Rs 700, excluding any toll charges.
Earlier, following a wider revision of bus fares, the Vajra weekly pass price had increased to Rs 750. The fare reduction signals an effort by BMTC to balance revenue concerns with passenger affordability, particularly for commuters who depend on AC buses for daily office travel.
According to BMTC officials, the reduced weekly pass is intended to encourage more commuters to opt for public transport instead of private vehicles, especially on longer routes where Vajra buses are commonly used.
Who Benefits Most From the Reduced Pass Price
The Vajra weekly pass is mainly used by passengers who travel regularly on AC buses for work, education and long-distance commutes across Bengaluru. For daily users, the reduction translates to noticeable savings over a month.
AC bus users often cite comfort, predictable travel and reduced fatigue as key reasons for choosing Vajra services. With the revised pricing, BMTC hopes to retain existing users and attract new riders who may otherwise consider two-wheelers or private cars.
The weekly pass does not include toll charges, which applicants should factor in depending on their routes.
Vajra Weekly Pass Available Through Mobile App
BMTC is issuing the Vajra weekly passes digitally through its official ticketing partner application. Passengers can purchase and activate the pass directly using their smartphones, reducing the need for physical counters or paperwork.
Officials stated that digital passes help improve convenience, cut queue times and ensure easier verification during travel. Commuters are advised to keep the app updated and ensure their pass is activated before boarding.
Two New Non AC Bus Routes Introduced
Along with the fare revision, BMTC has launched 2 new non-AC bus routes to address connectivity gaps in certain residential and transit-heavy areas.
These routes are aimed at providing consistent and predictable service in zones that previously depended on limited or indirect bus options.
Jnanabharathi Metro Station to Bharat Nagar 2nd Stage
A new non-AC bus service has been introduced between Jnanabharathi Metro Station and Bharat Nagar 2nd Stage. A single bus will operate continuously on this route from 6:25 am to 8:15 pm each day.
The bus will travel via Vidyaniketan Public School, Muddaianapalya Junction, Bharat Nagar 1st Stage and Byadarahalli before reaching Bharat Nagar 2nd Stage. This route is expected to benefit Metro users and residents in the western parts of the city by improving last-mile access.
Kempegowda Bus Station to Kannahalli Route
BMTC has also launched a new non-AC bus route between Kempegowda Bus Station and Kannahalli. This service will run continuously throughout the day using a single bus.
The route passes through Magadi Road 1st Cross, Vijayanagar, Moodalapalya, Nagarabavi Circle, Muddaianapalya and Chikkakodihalli. Officials said the route was planned based on passenger demand from residential clusters along these stretches.
What Commuters Should Keep in Mind
BMTC officials said passenger response to the revised Vajra pass pricing and the new routes will be closely monitored. Based on usage patterns, service frequency and coverage may be reviewed in the future.
For Bengaluru commuters, the fare cut and route expansion signal a step toward more affordable and accessible public transport. Passengers are encouraged to check updated schedules and route details through official channels before planning their travel.
