A major thrust of Modi’s speech related to responsible and accountable artificial intelligence. He called for a global compact on AI, emphasising transparency, human-centric design and measures to prevent misuse in deepfakes, crime and terrorism.
At the IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) platform, Modi pressed for urgent UN Security Council reform, arguing that an outdated structure can no longer represent the world’s geopolitical realities. He urged IBSA nations to push collectively for a fairer international order, supporting proposals such as an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance and championing India’s AI Impact Summit due in 2026.
Bilateral engagement
On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister held a series of high-profile bilateral meetings with leaders including Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. These discussions are based on India’s Special Strategic and Global Partnership with Japan and expanded areas of cooperation in defence, semiconductors, critical minerals, AI and Indo-Pacific security.
