Pakistan will continue to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran, said Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, after talks between the two nations hit a deadlock.
The statement came shortly after U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced the ceasefire negotiations between Washington and Tehran had failed to produce an outcome acceptable to both sides.
In a video message, Ishaq Dar said Islamabad will continue to play its role in facilitating engagement and dialogue between Iran and the U.S., calling for the two sides to uphold ceasefire.
Gratitude To Iran, U.S.
The Pakistan minister began his remarks by expressing gratitude towards Iran and the U.S. for accepting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s invitation for holding peace talks in Islamabad.
“Let
me begin by expressing a deep gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United states of America for responding to the call made by Prime Minister Pakistan Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif for an immediate ceasefire in the region as well as for accepting prime minister‘s invitation for holding peace talks in Islamabad”, he said.
“A delegation of the United States of America — headed by the U.S. Vice President JD Vance — and the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran — headed by the speaker of in Parliament Baqir Qalibaf — arrived yesterday in Pakistan to participate in Islamabad talks.”

Accompanied by Army Chief Asim Munir, Dar said he helped mediate several rounds of “intense and constructive” negotiations between the two sides.
“On behalf of Pakistan I would like to express gratitude to the two sides for appreciating Pakistan efforts to help achieve the ceasefire and its mediatory role. We hope that the two sides continue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prosperity for the entire region and beyond”, said the Pak minister.
He urged the two parties to continue to uphold the ceasefire, which was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump last week.
“It is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to ceasefire. Pakistan has been and will continue to play its role to facilitate engagement and dialogue between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United states of America in the days to come”, Dar said.
Talks Between U.S., Iran Collapse
On Sunday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance announced there was “bad news”, adding the talks between Washington and Tehran had showed no results.
“We have been at it for 21 hours, and we had several discussions with Iranians; we have not reached an agreement, and that is bad news for Iran more than it is bad news for the USA”, he said.
Vance said the Iranian side “chose not to accept” conditions tabled by the U.S.
Responding to the comments, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the U.S. refrain from “excessive demands and unlawful requests”.
“The US flew their Vice President halfway across the world to Islamabad. 21 hours of talks. They demanded everything they couldn’t achieve through war. Iran said a BIG NO. The talks are over. The Strait is still closed. And the VP is flying home empty-handed. Just Iran’s word. Again. They don’t have any option left to save face,” reads Iran Embassy in Ghana post on X.
