Balaghat (MP), Jul 29 (PTI) A big cat was found dead in a forested area of Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, taking the number of tiger deaths in the state to 46 so far in 2026, a senior forest department official said.
The death of the big cat coincided with International Tiger Day.
The senior official said details regarding the gender of the big cat and circumstances surrounding its death are awaited.
Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) L Krishnamoorthy said teams of forest personnel rushed to the spot after being informed in the afternoon.
“The cause of death cannot be ascertained immediately. Our teams will share details, including whether it was a male or female tiger, after the preliminary examination,”
he told PTI over the phone.
With the latest fatality, the number of tiger deaths in Madhya Pradesh has risen to 46 since January, he said. PTI LAL NSK
