New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) The Delhi Police has prevented three separate suicide attempts and rescued a woman from the Yamuna, police said on Sunday.
The incidents occurred while the police personnel were deployed for security and traffic arrangements related to the ongoing Kanwar activities in the area, they said.
In the first incident on Saturday, police received information about a 16-year-old girl allegedly attempting suicide due to domestic issues at Lohia Pull.
“A team immediately reached the spot and engaged the girl in conversation, counselled her and prevented the attempt,” a senior police officer said.
The girl was later handed over to her family after counselling and necessary intervention.
In the second incident, at 8.23 pm on Saturday, a PCR
call was received from a woman in Noida, who informed police that her brother was threatening to jump from Kalindi Kunj Pull.
A team immediately established telephone contact with the boy and traced his live location. After engaging him in real-time counselling, the team prevented the boy from taking the extreme step and reunited him with his family, police said.
In the third incident on Sunday, police received information that a woman had jumped into the Yamuna from the Yamuna Bridge.
A team deployed near the Kalindi Kunj picket rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of local divers, rescued the woman from the river in an unconscious condition.
Police shifted her to a hospital for treatment without waiting for an ambulance, ensuring timely medical attention. PTI BM SMV SMV MDO MDO
