Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is the most capped player in Indian Premier League (IPL) history is part of Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 squad but the 44-year-old cricketer from Jharkhand is yet to play a match for the Chennai-based franchise in this year’s IPL. He missed the first couple of weeks due to an injury suffered ahead of the start of the tournament and then got injured once again which delayed his comeback. It was reported that he would play in the Clasico against Mumbai Indians on April 23 at Wankhede Stadium but he didn’t and then missed the remaining matches as well.

Fans are desperate to see Dhoni playing for CSK in IPL 2026, and amid the suspense over his comeback date, the legendary
wicketkeeper-batter donned a new role for CSK on Thursday. In a video shared by the franchise’s official X handle, Dhoni can be seen bowling spin in the nets and heard saying, “Humko bhi ek wicket chahiye (I also want one wicket).”
CSK shared the clip with the caption “Just too AdoraBOWL!” and it is now going viral on the internet.

Dhoni led CSK in the IPL last year after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury and also kept the wickets. But in his absence, Sanju Samson is playing as a wicketkeeper for the Chennai-based franchise. The Keralam-based cricketer joined CSK in a trade deal ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and has impressed with his batting performances in this year’s IPL.
Samson, who won the Player of the Tournament award in T20 World Cup 2026, has amassed a total of 402 runs in 10 matches of IPL 2026 for CSK. He has slammed a couple of centuries (115* vs Delhi Capitals and 101* vs Mumbai Indians) and played an unbeaten knock of 87 runs from 52 balls for Chennai Super Kings in the 156-run chase against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (May 5) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
As of now, Samson is sixth on the list of batters with the most runs in IPL 2026, and if he manages to score at least 98 more runs in the remaining four league matches for CSK, then he will become the first wicketkeeper to score 500 runs in an IPL season for the Men in Yellow.
