Online transaction records ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 were submitted in court by retired judge Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of deceased model and actress Twisha Sharma, in an attempt to counter allegations of dowry harassment. The documents were presented as proof that the family regularly supported Twisha financially.
The development comes as the death of the 33-year-old actor in Bhopal continues to spark legal and political controversy. On Monday, a court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of her husband Samarth Singh, who remains absconding.
Following the order, Bhopal Police announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Earlier, anticipatory bail had been granted to Giribala Singh, a retired judge and
co-accused in the case.
Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her residence in Katara Hills on May 12, just months after marrying Samarth Singh in December 2025. Her family has accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and murder, allegations denied by Giribala Singh.
During the hearing, Samarth Singh’s lawyer opposed his arrest and raised claims regarding Twisha’s mental health. The arguments were challenged by the family’s counsel, who also expressed concerns over possible tampering of evidence.
After hearing both sides, Sessions Court Judge Pallavi Dwivedi dismissed Samarth Singh’s plea for pre-arrest bail.
Responding to the court’s decision, Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma said, “Rejection of the anticipatory bail plea was not our victory. Our victory will be when both are punished,” while also expressing apprehension that influence could be used to seek relief from a higher court.
He demanded the immediate arrest of both Samarth and Giribala Singh and accused them of misusing their influence.
Meanwhile, sections of Samarth Singh’s bail application circulating on social media have triggered outrage. The plea described Twisha as a “psychiatric patient and drug addict whose hands and feet would tremble without access to narcotics.”
Twisha’s relatives have strongly denied the allegations, saying she was cheerful and socially active before marriage.
Her cousin Meenakshi alleged that harassment escalated after Twisha lost her work-from-home job and became pregnant. She further claimed that Samarth Singh refused to accept the unborn child.
Police said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing allegations of dowry harassment, abetment and physical assault. Misrod ACP Rajneesh Kashyap, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that efforts were ongoing to locate the accused.
“In the bail petition, allegations regarding Twisha being a drug addict have been mentioned, but we are strictly investigating the case according to the sections mentioned in the FIR,” he said.
Officials said the preliminary post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal indicated death by hanging. However, Twisha’s family has questioned the findings, citing injury marks on the body and demanding a fresh post-mortem examination at AIIMS Delhi.
The investigation has also revealed procedural lapses. Police admitted that the rope allegedly used in the hanging was not sent for forensic analysis and said action would be taken against the investigating officer concerned.
Giribala Singh has maintained that Twisha suffered from depression and psychological illness and described the incident as a “nightmare” for the family. She further alleged that Twisha had been pushed into the glamour industry at a young age and remained under stress.
She also claimed Twisha’s family had not visited her for the past five months and accused them of preventing her final rites. At the same time, she said she had faith in the judiciary and the ongoing investigation.
Twisha’s family, meanwhile, has intensified its protest demanding the arrest of both accused and seeking an independent probe into the case.
