At least nine people fell sick after consuming contaminated drinking water in Mhow tehsil of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore. After several deaths due to widespread water-borne infection in Indore’s Bhagirathpura
area, these fresh cases have caused panic among the residents. The cases of water-borne diseases were reported from Mhow’s Patti Bazaar and Chander Marg areas on Thursday night.
As per a report by PTI, Indore administration promptly addressed the crisis and District Collector Shivam Verma visited Mhow late at night. He inspected the hospital where the patients were being treated and interacted with the residents of the affected areas. According to the officials, nine individuals have been hospitalised, with several others recovering at home.
Since Friday morning, health department personnel have been on site under the guidance of Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Madhav Hasani. Additionally, a team from the Indore Medical College and other specialist doctors are being dispatched to support the affected regions.
Mhow MLA Usha Thakur also visited the hospital to meet the affected persons.
Collector Verma directed the health department to ensure proper and effective treatment for all patients and has instructed the Mhow Cantonment Board to check the water quality and maintain cleanliness in the area.
The government is closely monitoring the situation, Verma said.
This incident follows a similar outbreak in December in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area, where several people fell ill, and seven deaths were reported due to water contamination.
While local residents claim that 25 lives were lost, a status report submitted by the Madhya Pradesh government to the High Court on January 15 confirmed seven fatalities, including a five-month-old boy.
