Anushka Sharma starrer Chakda Xpress, a biopic on the life of cricketer Jhulan Goswami, was officially announced in 2022. The film marks the actress’ comeback after the 2018 film Zero, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Although the Chakda Xpress team wrapped up shooting in 2022, the film was never released, and there has been no news about when it might. Renuka Shahane, who is also part of the movie, has now shared a post, opening up about her experience working on the film directed by Prosit Roy. She also added that she wishes the film had streamed, leaving fans speculating whether the film has been shelved. Director Prosit Roy reacted to her post, saying that it’s a real tragedy that the film never reached the audience.

Chakda Xpress Director REACTS
Meanwhile, director Prosit Roy reacted to Renuka Shahane’s story, and expressed his heartbreak stating that the system didn’t give Chakda Xpress the chance it deserved. “Till today, the handful who saw the film during post keep telling me how much it stayed with them. That’s the real tragedy- it never got to reach everyone it was made for. We gave this film everything we had. Sadly, the system didn’t give it the chance it deserved,” he wrote.
For the unversed, Chakda Xpress is a biopic on the life of cricketer Jhulan Goswami. It is backed by Clean Slate Filmz, a production house by Anushka’s brother Karnesh Ssharma. The film’s rights are currently with Netflix. In November 2025, Mid Day reported that after the Indian women’s cricket team lifted its maiden ICC Women’s World Cup trophy, the makers of Chakda Xpress wrote to the top executives from Netflix, urging them to release their movie.
“We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see if they can rise above the conflict so that the film can see the light of day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience,” a source cited by the portal claimed.
The publication also claims that the film has been stuck for years because the heads at Netflix did not like how the movie turned out. “The production house went over-budget. What added to the woes was that the platform heads didn’t like the way the project was shaping up. But it’s still a solid film,” the insider added.
