Ian Bishop, the West Indian cricketing legend turned commentator, is a man of many words. His eloquence behind the microphone and penchant for unearthing the stories of upcoming cricket talents in India is second to none. But on Tuesday evening, Bishop had an interaction so bizarre and unexpected, not once but twice, that left even the best in the business speechless.

For the uninitiated, the viral interactions between Bishop and Pant took place during the high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter between Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Here’s what unfolded during LSG vs RR that left Bishop stumped:
The Bizarre Toss Conversation
Bishop had assembled with the team
captains when he asked the LSG leader, Pant, about the final playing XI for the clash against Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Rajasthan.
Rishabh Pant: [Mohammed] Shami is not playing, Mohsin is playing.
Ian Bishop: Issue with Shami?
Rishabh Pant: Yeah.
Ian Bishop: Yeah? What’s with Shami?
Rishabh Pant: Mohsin.
Ian Bishop: No, what’s the issue with Shami?
Ian Bishop: Who is out?
Rishabh Pant: Shami is out, Mohsin is playing.
Ian Bishop: Yeah, I was asking…
Rishabh Pant: Aiden out, Badoni in.
Ian Bishop: Okay, leave it there.
We Are A Fu****g Good Team
Bishop chatted with the losing captain, Pant, post-match, asking the Lucknow Super Giants leader what he thought of his team which languished at the bottom of the IPL points table with just 8 points in 13 games, registering their 9th defeat in Jaipur on May 19.

“We are proud as a team regardless of what our situation is right now,” Pant said. “The kind of team we have, we know we can win this. Regardless of anything, we are confident enough as a team and as individuals. It hasn’t gone our way, and everyone knows that, but that doesn’t take away the fact that we are a fu****g good team,” he quipped.

IPL Fans React
The chaotic interactions between Bishop and Pant caused an uproar in the Indian cricket community, who wondered if the LSG captain had completely zoned out during the toss.
Pant dropping the F-bomb out of nowhere caught one and many off guard.
“Rishabh Pant is a very shameless cricketer, even after getting humbled by Rajsthan Royals, he is behaving arrogant and used bad words in post match presentation, Ion Bishnop had to apologized for that. This is very immature behaviour by Pant,” remarked one X user.

“Classic Rishabh Pant! The man plays by his own rules, even during a serious toss interaction. Ian Bishop was just trying to get some clarity, and Pant gave him a proper comedy sketch instead. You just can’t dislike this guy, total entertainer!” another fan called Pant’s antics entertaining.

LSG vs RR
Nothing was entertaining on the results front for Pant and his camp who registered yet another loss in the league stage. Batting first, Mitchell Marsh led from the front and smashed a blistering 57-ball 96 to propel Lucknow Super Giants to 220 for five in their designated 20 overs. Marsh joined Josh Inglis (60 off 29 balls) to stitch 109 off 50 balls before adding 64 off 42 with skipper Pant.
Rajasthan Royals’ run chase was yet another Vaibhav Sooryavanshi show as the sensational young talent plundered 93 off just 38 balls. Handy innings by Yashasvi Jaiswal (43) and Jitesh Sharma (53*) ensured the home side reached to the target in 19.1 overs and as many as 7 wickets left in the bag.
RR are now placed at the #4 spot on the points table and would eye a win over the Mumbai Indians on May 24 (Sunday) to secure final berth of the IPL 2026 playoffs.
