Pranit More’s crowd-work video during his recent stand-up show has landed him in controversy because of derogatory remarks made in the name of comedy. Amid the Rs 370 biryani joke row, social media is hailing Samay Raina for shutting down a misogynistic remark during the latest episode of India’s Got Latent.
On June 20, the first episode of Samay’s India’s Got Latent Season 2 aired, featuring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, Ashish Solanki, and Balraj Ghai as guests. During the episode, Samay asked the audience, “What does a girl like the most in a guy?” One audience member replied, “Paisa (money).” While this invited laughter from other audience members, Alia quickly asked, “Who said this?” To this, Samay hit back at the misogynistic remark, saying, “Gareeb
aadmi ne kaha hoga” (Some broke man must have said that), he quipped. His comeback left both the panellists and the audience ROFL.
This had fans comparing Samay to Pranit and slamming the latter while hailing the former. One wrote, “Pranit More should learn from Samay Raina.” “Pranit More, take notes!” another commented. A third user said, “Meanwhile, Pranit – PEAK GURGAON CONTENT.”
What happened during Pranit’s show
The controversy began during one of Pranit More’s live shows when audience member Himanshu Jangra was invited into a conversation. During the interaction, Jangra spoke about taking a woman out on a date and spending around Rs 370 on biryani. However, what sparked outrage was his suggestion that because he had paid for the meal, he expected intimacy in return. Many viewers who later watched the clip accused Jangra of treating dating like a transaction and reducing a woman to something that could be “earned” in exchange for money spent on a meal.
As criticism mounted, More addressed the issue in a video statement on Saturday, acknowledging his role in amplifying the comments and expressing regret over how the situation unfolded.
Explaining his silence until then, the comedian said that his Instagram account had been suspended, preventing him from responding earlier. He admitted that while interacting with the audience member during the crowd-work segment, several derogatory comments were made, but the atmosphere in the room, where people were laughing, influenced his reaction.
